Ahhhh, sweet baby! I got a pair of gerbils from a rescue a couple of years ago. The "girls" had been housed at an exotic animal warehouse in very cruel conditions before the place was busted for animal abuse. My girls were so sweet. Unfortunately, one of them suddenly became ill and passed away and the other girl died 3 weeks later. I think she died of a broken heart because she missed her best friend. I still miss them.
Aw. :-( I've kept gerbils since I was a young teenager. They're such sweet and funny things. He's about 3-1/2 years old, which is OLD for a gerbil. He's declining pretty fast, unfortunately. He runs in his wheel a couple of times a day, then sleeps or dozes the rest of the time, only getting up occasionally to get food or water. He's my "little old man". <3 He's outlived 3 other ones, by a long shot. I'll probably get another one (or a F/F pair) later on. Every time I get more than one male, they end up squabbling, and of course, you can guess what happens if you get a M/F pair! LOL!
